What is Alpha Mapping?

Alpha Mapping is when you add fonts that you have in your computer to the BES®4 Dream Edition™. Once you have mapped a font, you will be able to select it within the software and type on your computer’s keyboard as you usually do to type with this font.
No longer will you need to add these font files one letter at a time as embroidery files. What a time savings!

Some features you will learn in this video:

  • Adding fonts from your computer to BES®4 Dream Edition™
  • How to adjust letters along the baseline as you add them
  • Using the Auto feature of the Alpha Map chart
  • Manually adding letters to the Alpha Map chart

  • I am so excited to see this Alpha Mapping feature. I purchased BES4 last night and installed it. Cannot tell you how excited I am about not having to pick designs letter by letter. I do have some software but none with the feature, but I do love some of the fonts I have purchased from favorite companies.
I have not had success sending a design wirelessly to the machine, but have written for support, as Brother was closed when I got home.
Off to Alpha Mapping. Cannot wait!! Thank You!

  • Thank you so much for making this video- very helpful! If you purchase a font that has multiple sizes- such as 2″, 3″ 4″- would you add them as separate fonts? Such as Izzy 2in, Izzy 3in , Izzy 4in?

    • Hi Isabelle,

      Thanks for reaching out!

To answer your question, yes, you would map each size and name them 1 in, 2 in etc.

      Hope this helps!

      Happy Sewing!

      • Perfect, thank you for such a quick response. One more question- some of the large fonts I have purchased are pulling up with the letters laying on their side. Is there a way to rotate each letter 90 degrees to the right so that they are right side up?

        • Hi Isabelle,

You can open the letters in BES 4, Rotate and re-save them before selecting the Alpha Mapping function. There isn’t a way to rotate within the Alpha Mapping function.

          Hope this helps!

  • Hi! I am alpha mapping purchased fonts in a 5″, 6″ and 7″, do I need to add that size to the text height box? Or does it already know what size the file is?

  • Hi! I just purchased a monogram font to create a circle monogram and I need to alpha map it. Each letter has a left, center and right design. How do I alpha map these? Thanks so much for your help.

    • Hi Amy,

      Thanks for reaching out!

Here is an option for you – Merge the letters you would like. Then, align them Vertical Center and then Horizontally distribute them on the Arrange tab.

      Hope that helps!

  • Hello-
How do you alpha map 3 letter monogram fonts that have a left, right, and center for each letter?
