Hello everyone. Laura here from Trash to Couture. For this post, I will share with you how to create a beautiful lace ornament with your Brother embroidery machine! You’ll stitch this built-in Freestanding Lace Design on two layers of water-soluble stabilizer, then rinse the design in water, to leave only the thread. These ornaments make perfect gifts for everyone on your list (Color and specifications may vary).

Note: Here is a similar star design on iBroidery. Click here to download.

Project Directions:

  1. Cut two pieces of lightweight water-soluble stabilizer several inches larger than your hoop. Place both pieces of stabilizer in your embroidery hoop. The stabilizer should be ‘taut like a drum’ in the hoop. Tighten the screw at the bottom of the hoop.

  1. Set up your machine to embroider. You will use the same embroidery thread in your top thread and in your bobbin. Take your desired embroidery thread, and wind a bobbin with this thread.

    • Hi MaryAnn,

      Thanks for reaching out!

I don’t see a star design on the SB8000 but you can always check out the star selections (as well as many other items) on iBroidery.com (https://www.ibroidery.com).

      Hope this helps!

I even signed up for your site just for this project….FOUL ON YOU !!! SHAME ON YOU !!! SWITCH AND BAIT to try and sell us a different sewing machine !!! Again… SHAME !!!!!

    • Hi Mary,

      Thanks for reaching out!

The thread that was used was Brother metallic embroidery thread.

      Hope that helps!

  • So put this design on ibroidery so everyone who gets this email (because we already bought an embroidery machine from Brother) can buy the design from you and do the project.

Seems like a no-brainer to me, though I don’t need the design because there are at least three other design companies who have lace stars. Just Google them.

  • I made the lace star this evening, and wish I had made some to give out to my family for Christmas. Unfortunately, it’s too late for this year. But I’ll get a head start for next year! It’s absolutely beautiful! I did mine with a silver metallic thread. Will be trying other colors soon!
