In honor of National Sewing Machine Day, we acknowledge a machine that helps to take our creativity to new levels. Here we have a device that sews, embroiders and even quilts, on all sorts of fabrics and with all kinds of stitches. On this memorable day, we gathered together and asked several of our Brother Sews Ambassadors the following question; when you want to stitch, sew, quilt or embroider, which Brother machine do you reach for first? Read below for the fun, fascinating answers!

“After using Brother sewing and embroidery machines for many years, I admit that I’m spoiled by the many over the top features they include! Lately, I’ve been bonding with my new “baby,” the Brother NS1750D. Designed with high-end features at a budget-friendly price, this baby has stitched through all sorts of fabrics without a whimper, and the embroidery side of the machine is filled with delightful designs and lots of opportunities for creating customized and combined motifs.” – Joanne Banko

“Princess, my CFO (Chief Furry Officer) loves THE Dream Machine. It is what we use most often to complete our projects. The InnovEye (better known as a camera), makes all our jobs easier. From scanning for placement to aligning stitches on the sewing side, this is my baby! I love that I can have decorative background stitching around my embroidery designs using My Design Center. There is so much about this machine, that I don’t know what to tell you is my favorite.” – Cindy Hogan

“As a designer and sewing blogger for various types of sewing: garments, accessories, and embroidery. The Brother SE625 Sewing and Embroidery Machine is my go-to. It offers the versatility and durability I need for the many different projects I am creating. I am able to enhance my projects with the embroidery system and several built-in designs. It’s the perfect machine to bring my creative visions to life.” – Laura Pifer

“THE Brother Dream Machine is my all-time favorite sewing, quilting, and embroidery machine. The huge embroidery hoop allows me to embroider an entire sleeve! I also love the scanning feature – I can scan in my logo and custom embroider my jean pockets with a few touches of a button. There are a ton of stitches to choose from; it can even sew in different directions which is ideal for sewing bag straps and belt loops. Those are just a few of my favorite features ♥” – Angela Wolf

“My favorite sewing machine is my Brother Serger SB3734T. I sew knit clothes for my kids and sewing with a serger makes making clothes so fast and easy. The finish of the seams is flawless, and the stretch of the seams is perfect for the stretch fabric I’m using. Making clothes for my kids has never been so fast and easy.” – Emily Thompson

“I just love my THE Brother Dream Machine 2. It does a wonderful job of stitching out my applique designs. I love using the fill stitches around the applique designs; however, the biggest plus for me is the self-threading needle – I can literally change thread colors super fast! It still tickles me after all these years that all I have to do is just press a button and have the machine put the thread in the needle.” – Anna Aldmon

  • Hello I love my Brother ULT2003 it replaced my 2001 that had the nerve to die on me after years of stitching.I have all my designs on floppies so I went on a hunt for another floppy drive machine. I hate to think of the day I will have to up grade an redo all my designs to read in a new machine but I will go with a Brother again. I have been embroidering since 2001.

    • Hi Sally,

Thanks for the kind words! That’s awesome that you’ve been embroidering since 2001!

  • I have 8 machines, several which are vintage are rarely used – but they have sentimental value to me so I can’t part with them. One is a 25 year-old electronic Brother that works as well now as it did when I bought in the ’90’s. One is a late 1960’s Kenmore 158 which is a workhorse and will sew through almost anything. I made my daughter’s wedding gown with it back in 1992. But of all of them, my favorite and the one I use 90% of the time is my WONDERFUL INNOVIS VQ3000. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this machine! I’ve been sewing since age 7, am now a senior and I’ve never before had a machine as great as this. I quilt, sew clothes and crafts – this beauty does it all – and it does it extremely well! It works for delicate fabrics and heavy stuff too. I just finished a craft project that required I sew through 6 layers of denim. It sewed through like it was butter. I’m learning to free motion quilt and the wide throat of the VQ3000 makes this a pleasure.
When it first arrived, I looked it over and gulped; it appeared complicated. But I took out the manual, jumped right in and immediately discovered how quick and EASY it is to learn – pure joy! It’s also solid and heavy as it’s made with a lot of metal , unlike many other junky modern sewing machines. They have so much plastic that they’re too lightweight for speed sewing and jump all over the place.
I use this machine virtually every day and couldn’t be happier – Brother, you hit a home run with this series of machines!!!

    • Hi Granny G.,

Thanks for the super kind words! We’re happy that you are happy!

      Happy Sewing!

  • Hello. I’m totally infatuated with my Dream Machine 2. As others have suggested it’s nearly impossible to choose just one upgrade over my Brother SE400. (Some engineers have been talking to some smart and experienced sewists! ) In the top ten best new features, for how I sew, is the ability to change from embroidery to sewing by just touching one button and you are ready to go. The abilities of this machine are mind boggling.

    • Hi Judy,

      Thanks for the kind words!

We’re pretty infatuated with THE Dream Machine 2 as well 🙂

      Happy Sewing!

  • My two favorite things are computers and sewing and I love that my Dream Machine gives me the best of both. Not only is it a great machine to sew on I can design on my laptop in my living room upstairs and send it wirelessly to my machine located downstairs in my sewing room (no more cables Yeah!).
Last year I made a wedding dress for my granddaughter and we couldn’t find a lace that she liked, so I designed an allover lace on my laptop then sewed it out on my Dream machine turned out beautifully and so easy. I have also included the Scan N Cut to my arsenal of creative tools so I am in heaven since I can now design on my laptop and make it on either machine or both if I choose to, now the sky’s the limit (and I’m not even sure that limit will stay true for long).

    • Hi Anne,

      Thanks for the kind words!

Yes, the sky’s the limit with both the ScanNCut and THE Dream Machine (but to your point, but for how long?? 🙂 )

      Happy Sewing!
