I had so much fun creating this placemat for the Brother Sews Ultimate New Year’s Eve Project, in collaboration with all the Brother Sews Ambassadors. I volunteered to create a placemat at our first Brother Ambassadors Conference in June 2019. Did you notice is it reversible! Finishes at 12” x 18”
My mind just went racing thinking of how I would design and create the placemat. I knew I wanted Stars and Words. Working with Janice Ferguson, another Brother Sews Ambassador who signed up for napkins and coasters, we decided to add the cute fireworks design from the Brother iBroidery page. My other objective was to design the placemat using the features of My Design Center and Embroidery Edit. As part of R & D (research and development), I realized that best way to share my placemat creation is via a video (see below) which has both the construction of the placemat as well as the stitch out and finishing. I have also created a “Guide” that aligns with the different steps shown in the video (downloadable PDF). This method will allow you to pause as needed or stop and save your work to Memory to come back another time. My hope is that in learning these features will enable each of you to create wonderful projects on your Brother embroidery machine.
I used Brother metallic thread for the 3 fireworks design. It gives the allusion of the fireworks up in the sky, sparkly and fading in and out. The fireworks design is available from iBroidery

Anna, there is so much “meat” in this post, so much information and so much to learn! Thanks for walking us through the techniques and use of My Design Center. I love this placemat!
Thank you Janice. I know it is a lot of information, but it can be done in small sections at a time.
Incredible many of excellent advice!
Thank you for your feedback.
Enjoy!
